About Me
Hello, my name is Elena Chavez and I am a freshman at IUPUI. I graduated from Portage High School in 2023 with academic honors as well as technical honors. I work as a CNA during the summer and enjoy taking care of the residents and my time there to learn and grow to become a good nurse. I value hard work and kindness. They way you project yourself is so important to how others think of you as well as treat you, so meanness as well as being lazy, will give you nothing but trouble. Being nice does not hurt no one. You never know who needs a smile or just a good interaction with someone else to brighten their day.
Through out my life, I have had challenges that shaped me into who I am today. The most significant time was when I was in cross country during high school. I was struggling mentally to keep pushing through when my times were not improving. One day it reached the climax when I ran my slowest time ever during the ending of the season. All I can remember was crying and feeling like a failure to my whole team and myself. It was a hard moment but my coach helped me overcome it all. She told me not to give up and when she saw me doing so, she was always right there to encourage me. I returned next year and with all the belief she had in me pushed me to not give up on myself and that cross season ended being my best. This whole experience taught me how to push through unexpected hard times and to never give up on myself even when things are not following the plan I have set. Another one would be growing up in a big family. I have 3 brothers and 3 sisters, and as you can imagine, living with so many people with different personalities was a lot to deal with 24/7. Of course we fought and got on each others nerves plenty of time, but as I look back on that time, I realized that it helped me grow into being a more understanding person since I witness all the different things my siblings went through and taught me how act when I get upset with someone because I had to learn when to speak up and when to hold my tongue.
I chose to attend IUPUI to continue my academic journey for many reasons, some including the inclusivity, the hospitals around campus, and for the community IUPUI has to offer. My goals while attending collage is to mainly graduate with my nursing degree, but also include becoming involve with the campus, joining clubs, and making long lasting connection. As time goes on I plan to be working as a cosmetic nurse in Florida or Chicago and continue learning to one day open my own medical spa. I am excited for this new journey I'm on.
